Here are 10 things to consider if your company is considering ERP in the cloud. According to research conducted by Gartner, 47% of organizations/businesses plan to move their ERP to the cloud in the next 5 years. Cloud ERP

  1.  ERP is not as painful an IT experience as it used to be. Research estimates that Cloud ERP customers expericne 43% faster payback compared to on premise solutions. Many cloud platforms are flexible, collaborative, and user intuitive. 
  2. Staying competitive over status quo. Half your competitors are implementing cloud ERP platforms which provides real time access to help compete, innovate, and grow faster.
  3. Conduct an informal survey. Find out who in the company is satisified with the ERP system in place. Find out what the primary pain points are from all aspects of the business-i.e, accounting, sales, operations, etc. 
  4. Identify the costs not moving to the cloud. Figure out what your company is not able to do curretnly becuase of legacy limitations. 
  5. Quantify ERP upgrade costs. Consider all the costs that go into upgrading and maintaining the current system to help determine a reasobale and realistic budget for new cloud ERP.
  6. Best of Breed vs Suite? Consider the pros and cons of best of breed software then compare it to the advantages of the suite approach where you are tied to just one developer. 
  7. Come up with an honest assessment of how flexible is the system. Legacy ERP systems were developed in 90's when computing power had serious limitiations. As a way to get around this developers crunched big computing tasks into a number of smaller tasks resulting a massive and complex data. 
  8. Take a trial the software yourself. Make sure the system is user-friendly and collaborative. 
  9. Does the platform get along with other? Make sure the cloud platform has an open API for integration and collaboration with other mission critical tools. 
  10. Make sure someone owns the project. Identify a project team lead who will be committed to the implementation and is fully aware of the enormity of it.
