internet-open-The FCC voted by a margin of 3-2 to adopt net neutrality. The vote will require broadband internet to be reclassified as a public utility in the similar manner telecommunications is regulated. In essence, the principle of net neutrality is internet service providers (ISPs) such as Comcast, Charter, Verizon, Century Link, ATT, etc., cannot dictate the flow of internet traffic.

 

Here are the 3 major rules the FCC will enforce on ISPs:

• No Blocking:  broadband providers may not block access to legal content, applications, services or non-harmful devices.

• No Throttling: broadband providers may not impair or degrade lawful Internet traffic on the basis of content, applications., services, or non-harmful devices.

• No Paid Prioritization: broadband providers may not favor some lawful Internet traffic  over other lawful traffic in exchange for additional fees. In other words, no “fast lanes”. This rule also bans ISPs from prioritizing content and services of their affiliates.
