Windows LogoIn just two short months support for Windows XP comes to a final conclusion on April 8th, 2014.  Windows XP will stand as Microsoft’s longest running operating system at *12.5 years and most commercially successful. It is estimated that just under a quarter of all computers in the United States still operate Windows XP. According to figures from Gartner at the end of 2013 the global install base of XP was approximately 1.6 billion units and installed on approximately half a billion computers. Businesses that choose to remain on Windows XP may be putting themselves at more risk than they realize. The benefits are obvious in that companies save on capital expenditures, however, the potential risks may result in more costs.

Yeah, well, they're not.

AdobeOn January 3rd, Adobe Systems announced it will be retiring Workspaces effective January 6, 2015. This includes all services associated with Workspaces including Buzzword, Presentation, and Tables. Adobe made a corporate decision to move out of the document authoring business for word processing, spreadsheets and presentation files. Cloud storage and document services through Adobe will still be available through other Acrobat.com services such as Adobe PDF Pack and Adobe ExportPDF.

Cybercriminals are attempting to create a “ransomware creation kit” in order to mass produce new variants of malware designed to extort money from PC users, reports security firm Sophos.

lifepreserver dataseaAccording to Bitdefender Labs, CryptoLocker hit over 10,000 systems in one week.  In case you have not heard, CryptoLocker is a Trojan that encrypts documents on victims' computers and holds them ransom for $300. If you don't cough up the money, CryptoLocker threatens that it will delete the decryption key, rendering the infected files unreadable.  In our experience, paying the ransom does not always work. I have been extremely happy with your service. Michael is truly devoted to his clients and has been great about working with our current vendor to get our issues resolved. The MXLogic transition was seamless. Our users barely noticed the change, which is always a plus.

Since our bank told us we need to become PCI compliant, we found lots of holes and “open doors” on our servers, hosting, website etc. Chris closed up them and Tim has helped with the all the other annoying daily problems we have had, and they both do it with a smile and a reassuring, calming tone…

I cannot thank you enough for your help this evening. You have proven that your services are much more valuable than we ever expected - when you guys told me your hourly rate, I thought "no way can we afford that"! lol .... We are small and we do all we can to keep costs down, as I'm sure you…

I’ve sent more than one shining Michael endorsement. The whole company kicks ass.

We are impressed with response times and the general aptitude of your support group. This stands in stark contrast to some of the experiences with other IT resources we’ve patronized in the past.

We are very happy to have your company in place. Joel and Tony have been excellent. The Senior Management Team feels as though a great weight has been lifted from their shoulders and we are appreciative that our systems and software are in the hands of experts.

....and, thank you for all YOU do. We are able to actually breathe easier knowing you're taking care of people. Nims and Associates are the best support company I have ever worked with. They get back to my every problem or question in record time. They have been able to help or fix every problem I have come up with. Bill and or Bob are very knowledgeable with all my MASS 200 problems. I would and have…

Since we switched hosts to Network Solutions, we've had nothing but continuous problems with email and sessions timing out preventing us from opening our online store. Joel went out of his way to solve our problem. This means the world to us. Joel listened and accommodated our needs first before…

Bill has far exceeded my expectations. I am happy to have another Super Technician to rely on for MAS200.

We have been a client of Nims & Associates for over ten years. Chris has implemented and maintained our network for all of those years. As our network and our needs have changed and grown, Chris has provided excellent support to move us forward. Over the years I have come to know several of the…
