lifepreserver dataseaAccording to Bitdefender Labs, CryptoLocker hit over 10,000 systems in one week.  In case you have not heard, CryptoLocker is a Trojan that encrypts documents on victims' computers and holds them ransom for $300. If you don't cough up the money, CryptoLocker threatens that it will delete the decryption key, rendering the infected files unreadable.  In our experience, paying the ransom does not always work. Train your users. Don't open unknown or unsolicited attachements! They could get hit with CryptoLocker and you could lose all of your data.

GS-business-gears-interlocking-blue-300wSetting up a new Lenovo Helix for a client and the first thing after updating firmware that I did was install Windows 8.1 (Took literally all night). It made the machine usable in my opinion so my hope is to only get a call about how to use this thing once a week. ;-) While viewing some youtube reviews of the device I ran across someone saying that the best feature of 8.1 was syncing the start menu with your desktop background. I didn't get it until I did it. Now the start/metro experience is so much better, makes the metro start screen look like just an app launcher which is so much better. It just feels right.
